The studio offers a full range of private, duet and group classes designed to facilitate clients’ individual goals. Our instructors are creative, certified and offer an array of specializations. The Bodysmith’s beautiful, 5400-square foot studio space is appointed with state-of-the-art STOTT PILATES® equipment.
We are located in historic downtown Springfield, Missouri on lively Walnut Street and offer two lots for parking.
The BodySmith is a proud provider of Core Barre™ as well as Core Suspend™ Teacher Training from the Systems of Smart Movement® and also offers continuing education credits for Smart Movement® Instructors.
Pilates is an effective, efficient, full-body workout that is based on the core principals of alignment, stability and breath.
Our goal at The Bodysmith is to encourage individuals to develop their mind-body awareness and improve their fitness level. We aim to create a welcoming environment, inviting the community to experience our wide range of course offerings. Pilates is a happy medium between a rigorous gym workout and meditative movement. Pilates utilizes resistance through spring loaded equipment, which builds strength without adding bulk, creating streamlined muscle groups. It also utilizes repetition, which facilitates muscle memory that will persist well beyond your hour-long session.
Pilates is a rigorous mental exercise that will facilitate your ability to isolate and focus on particular muscle groups. Pilates brings about a heightened awareness of the body that improves clients’ performance in all of their physical activities.
The Bodysmith offers private classes for your general fitness, rehabilitation sessions, athletic training for the recreational or competitive athlete and themed and general Pilates group classes are also available. In addition to Pilates, The Bodysmith is your source for Neuromuscular and relaxation massage, tai chi and yoga classes.
Meet the Owner - Shuana Smith Yates
Shauna Smith Yates Owner / Certified Instructor Shauna began her Pilates instruction in 1999 with Chyrel Miller at Studio One Pilates to rehab a reoccurring injury from her many years of ballet training. She fell in love with the movement, range of motion and strength training Pilates provided to her own body she decided she wanted to share it with others.
She began her certification in the STOTT PILATES® method while finishing her degree at Drury University in Studio Art and Art History.
In 2001 Shauna began instructing at Studio One Pilates in the evenings opposite of her position as curator and interim director of The History Museum for Springfield-Greene County. In 2002 she traveled to Toronto, Canada to receive her Instructor Trainer Certification and began work at the studio full-time.
In addition to her work with her private clients, Shauna has provided STOTT PILATES® education to students to Springfield, the surrounding areas, and has spent time teaching in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Bundang, South Korea.
Shauna has also recently furthered her education by becoming a CORE BARRE Master Trainer, allowing The Bodysmith to become the first Core Barre Training Center in the Mid-West. Shauna is also trained in the Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) technique and holds an additional certification through the Pilates Method Alliance. As owner of The Bodysmith, Shauna continues to enjoy teaching others and practicing Pilates in order to continue her love of running, cycling, painting and gardening.
She was honored to be nominated as one of 417 Magazines Wellness Warriors in 2013.
